The annual awards ceremony organized by The Sun Newspapers, The Sun Awards held on Saturday, 17tb January, 2015 at the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The awards, formerly known as The Sun Man of the Year started in 2003, is tailored to honour distinguished personalities for exhibiting their will to surpass others and excel in their chosen fields.
For 2014, Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Magatakarda Wamakko emerged the winner of THE SUN MAN OF THE YEAR.
This is in recognition of his administration’s outstanding performance and commendable developmental endeavour across Sokoto State, which covers education, agriculture, security and infrastructure.
Some of the other winners include Mrs Dooshima Suswan, wife of the Governor of Benue State as the MOST SUPPORTIVE FIRST LADY.
General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, GCFR, former military President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces- LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
Chief Anthony Anenih, former Minister of Works and Housing and former Commissioner of Police- LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
Professor Jibril Aminu, former Minister of Education and former Minister of Petroleum- LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
Chief (Mrs.) Folake Solanke (SAN), first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria- LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
Professor Joe Irukwu (SAN), Nigeria’s first professor of Insurance- LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
Mr. Bisi Onasanya, MD/CEO, First Bank PLC- BANKER OF THE YEAR.
Mr Jim Ovia, MFR, co-founder and former Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Zenith Bank, and Promoter and Founder of Visafone Communications Limited- INVESTOR OF THE YEAR.
Dr. Ernest Juwah, Vice Chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission- PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD.
Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi, OFR, Director General, National Emergency Management Authority- PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD.
Dr. Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, Chief Executive Officer, Nestoil Ltd-BUSINESS MAN OF THE YEAR.
Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Chief Executive Officer, Sifax Nigeria Ltd-BUSINESS MAN OF THE YEAR.
Chief Charles Odunukwe, Chief Executive Officer, The Colonades Hotel- HOSPITALITY MAN OF THE YEAR.
Chief (Sir) James Uzochukwu Uduji, Chief Executive Officer, Cometstar Manufacturing Ltd- MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR AWARD.
Mr. Kunle Afolayan, Master Storyteller and Filmmaker- NOLLYWOOD PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR.
Mr. Michael Collins Ajereh (Don Jazzy), Prolific Music Producer, Recording Artist, and Owner of The Mavins Record Label- CREATIVE PERSON OF THE YEAR.
Mrs. Blessing Okagbare-Otegheri, multi talented athlete-SPORTS PERSON OF THE YEAR.
LATE (DR) Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (Posthumous Award), medical doctor whose efforts and sacrifice helped contain the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria- NIGERIAN HERO AWARD.
In the first picture below is Sokoto State Governor receiving his award from Dr Ernest Shonekan, former Head of the Interim National Government, chairman of the occasion and Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal. While in the second picture are members of the Benue State Cultural Troupe entertaining the guests.

….This year’s event was much better packaged than last year especially in terms of managing the crowd that came.
And the part I enjoyed the most, the food was lovely and it was fun throughout.
