Hyundai Tucson better known here as the ix35 is a darling among young people especially those who are about to have started their families.
I remember when it first landed the shores of Nigeria, it was so in demand that the main dealer here, Hyundai Motors ran out of stock. Yet the orders kept coming in and piling.
Then a friend of mine was robbed of the brand new one he bought for his wife and was never found till date. It was probably also irresistible to robbers.
This week, according to carscoops.com, ….after its world premiere in Geneva last month, Hyundai brought the North American 2016 Tucson crossover to the New York Auto Show.
With the exception of the repositioned LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) that on the American model sit above, instead of below, the fog lights, there’s nothing else different about the 2016 Tucson in terms of styling over its European sibling.
Under the hood, the North American market Tucson will be offered with a choice of two engines, a 2.0-liter direct-injection four-cylinder delivering 164hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four with 175hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque, both available in front- and all-wheel drive versions.
The 2.0-liter engine is coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. When opted with FWD, it returns an estimated at 23mpg city, 31mpg highway and 26mpg combined.
The turbocharged lump gets Hyundai’s new seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with the automaker quoting fuel economy estimates of 25mpg city, 30mpg highway and 27mpg combined for the FWD version, representing a 3-mpg improvement in combined fuel economy over the outgoing Tucson 2.4L it replaces.
Elsewhere, the wheelbase has been increased by 1.2 inches improving both interior volume and stability, while cargo room is up by 5 cubic feet to 31 cubic feet and there’s also an available tailgate with auto-open.
Sales of the new Tucson will start in the US this July with prices to be announced…..
I know we most probably won’t get this from the dealers but grey imports from America will soon flood our markets.
