Six more senators have fallen in love with Innoson G5 sport utility vehicle since Ben Murray-Bruce blazed the trail by taking delivery of his own car at the premises of the National Assembly the day the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, echoed the call to support made-in-Nigeria products after test-driving vehicles from the Nnewi plant.

The latest customers include a senator from the south-west, two from the north-west and the rest (one of them a female who was part of the 7th Senate) from the south-east, placed their orders after having a close look at the SUV purchased by Murray-Bruce. Some of them viewed the range of cars displayed at the National Assembly last week by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited (IVM).
Confirming the orders, the Managing Director of IVM, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma hailed the senators for their interest in his brand, assuring that they would not regret the decision they took, which he said was ”a very patriotic gesture that should be emulated by all Nigerians”.
Chief Chukwuma, who also hinted of an arrangement that would ensure very reliable after-sales back-up for the vehicles, disclosed that more senators and House of Representatives members were likely to place fresh orders in the next few days.
Chukwuma had on Monday, February 15, at the National Assembly complex, presented Murray-Bruce a unit each of G5 SUV and UMU sedan, less than one week after the senator announced on Twitter that he had purchased locally made vehicles to give meaning to his campaign for the patronage of locally made products.
“Dr. Innoson Chukwuma has delivered my Innoson cars which I will now use as my official car”, Murray-Bruce after a brief test-drive of the new IVM G5 along with Chukwuma, who dutifully introduced some of the car’s unique features to him from the front passenger seat.
“I paid for the cars with my personal funds, not government money. I believe in this nation”.
The senator representing Bayelsa state is also eyeing the bullet-proof version of the SUV. “Dr. Chukwuma showed designs for bullet proof version which he’ll deliver to me in 90 days”.
Earlier in the day, the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and some senators had inspected the vehicles showcased by the Nnewi auto maker.
He later tweeted: “Today, I met with Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, the Group Chairman and CEO of Innoson Motors. This visit was in line with the 8th Senate’s work to make the #MadeInNigeria and the #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira campaigns more widespread.

“We have a collective responsibility to ensure that our home-grown businesses are successful. When our businesses at home flourish, we can put more of our young people to work, and increase our internally generated revenue.
“The 8th Senate will continue to work on re-examining our laws to sift out ways that we can support our domestic manufacturers and producers. We will begin this process by amending the procurement act to give our local manufacturers and producers ‘first dibs’ in the government procurement process”.
