The Lagos State Government on Saturday unveiled the newly constructed Alapere slip road in a bid to further relieve traffic along the axis of Lagos to Berger (inwards Alapere) Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said the project was another mission statement of his Administration’s commitment to decongesting the traffic gridlock along the axis for motorist and residents alike.

Speaking through his Deputy, Dr.Oluranti Adebule, the governor said the slip road will improve traffic management and translate into improved value chain of production, health benefit and prosperity for all Lagosians.

He highlighted the features of the slip road to include a 2-lane access road from Iyana Oworo through Olopomeji towards Alapere-ketu that will relieve traffic flow towards the Lagos –Ibadan Expressway and Ojodu Berger axis.

He said apart from the concretized slip road which also comes with horticulture, artwork, walkways, covered drains and streetlights designed to last for at least 25 years, provision was also made for pedestrian safety with the integration of a two meter wide walkway and drainage on the
side to ensure that vehicular movement is not impeded by pedestrian.

While assuring Lagosians of his Administations’ commitment to making life better, He said: “You are all aware of the existing prohibition of street trading and patronage on pedestrian walkways and public roads. We shall not hesitate to enforce the provisions of the law against any violator.

He implore transport unions to educate their members to always observe the state traffic law and road etiquette in order to reduce travel time for motorist and ensure safety of all road users.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Special Adviser to the governor on Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Anofiu Elegushi stressed the importance of the road adding that it is not a bus stop, but a bypass for commuters and motorist to use at all times.

He commended the officers and men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other traffic management apparatus over the state for their dedication and commitment towards traffic management in the state.
