The Nigerian Senate has kicked against plans by the Nigerian Customs Service to impound old vehicles whose Custom duties are yet to be paid or were under-paid.
The Upper Chambers kicked against Custom’s plans on Tuesday after the Deputy Leader of the Senate Bala Na’Allah moved a motion drawing the attention of the Senate to the policy which he referred to as a serious matter.
Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi State speaking on the policy said it’s impossible to import a vehicle without paying your duties or support from Customs.
However, the Nigerian Senate resolved to halt the plans by the Nigerian Customs till they have met with Senate Committee on Customs.
Recall that the Nigerian Customs gave a one month ultimatum to vehicle owners whose duties have not been paid, or well paid; or their vehicle will be impounded.
