A mobile court of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Jos on Friday convicted nothing less than 66 motorists for different offenses in Jos Plateau state.
According to the Sector Commander in the state, Mrs Pat Emeordi, during an interview with journalists, road safety officers apprehended 72 road traffic defaulters.
She noted that six were discharged while 66 were convicted by the mobile court.
Mrs Emeordi stressed that she will do everything within her power to ensure that road accidents is reduced to the barest minimum in the state.
She said; “Our officers and men apprehended 72 traffic offenders, but the court discharged and acquitted six while 66 others were convicted.The aim of this exercise is not to victimise anybody, but to ensure safety of lives and property on the highways. Mobile court is the best way to try road traffic offenders because they are being given fair hearing.’’
She further encouraged drivers to ascertain the state of their vehicle before plying the road.
The offences committed by the defaulters ranged from driver’s licence, and seatbelt violation, and lack of fire extinguishers, among others.
