Tesla motors is making moves to produce its models from China to enable them boost local competiveness of electric vehicles
According to bloomberg, Tesla is negotiating to build its auto plant in Lingang development zone in Shanghai.
Building Tesla’s manufacturing plant in China will not just avail them an even competition with rivals but also save them 25% import duties if they manufacture outside China which is currently applied on its existing Model S and Model X and, more crucially, the upcoming Model 3.
China is already the world’s largest market for electric vehicles since 2015, and the government is pushing ahead with an ambitious plan that will increase sales of PHEVS and EVs 10-fold over the next decade.
