After Haas F1 and VF-18 , the team of Sir Frank Williams has just unveiled the 2018 car, the FW41.
Regarding the name, Williams continues with the historic name “FW” for Frank Williams. In 2018, it will be the 41st consecutive season of presence in the Formula 1 championship for the team. Not the 41st car, but it takes the name FW41.
This is obviously a big evolution of last season’s car. Like virtually all teams, Williams had to focus on adding Halo while adapting the car to the new Pirelli tires.
However, it was perhaps a little more daring for Paddy Lowe’s first car. The car is evolving all the same. There will be a lot of work on the pontoons with higher openings and with a body that closely follows the mechanics. The engine remains a Mercedes.
At the back, the shark fin disappears. But, the hood of the FW41 being very narrow like last year, Williams can keep a fairly important edge. We can also note a mini-flap at the bottom. This is a gray area of regulation and Williams had evaluated this solution late last year.
The team will align this FW41 with Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin. A pair of slightly young drivers who will be supported by Robert Kubica who is back in F1 as a test pilot.
