Volkswagen has just broken a new record in the hay bales of Goodwood’s Festival of Speed (FoS) 2018. The Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak and its licensed driver Romain Dumas set a new track record for an electric car this Saturday, July 14.

43 “05 this is the time of the new record for an electric car in Goodwood (England) . The precedent, dating from 2013, was to Jonny Cocker’s credit in 47.34 seconds at the wheel of a Lola-Drayson B12 69 / EV. It is improved by just over four seconds. So much for the satisfactory aspect of the thing.

However, the absolute record remains held by Nick Heidfeld who, driving a McLaren-Mercedes MP4 / 13 Formula 1, set a time of 41 “6 seconds in 1999. The ID R Pikes Peak remains at 1 , 5 seconds.

Perhaps with a little more preparation (tests on the spot) this absolute record could have been achieved by Volkswagen and Romain Dumas. Maybe Porsche with its 919 Hybrid Evo could it also beat (easily?) This record. With so … Unless all or part of this little world is back next year.

And for the record, note that Nio with its EP9 yesterday also improved the previous mark in 44 “61 thus becoming for a short time the new record holder in electric.
