From mandatory seatbelts, speed limits, and zero alcohol to valid documents, working lights, and no phone use, these guidelines prevent fines and crashes. Essential for daily drivers and car owners. Follow FRSC Highway Code tips to stay legal and safe.

1. Seatbelt

Driver a.d all passengers, front and back. Kids under 12 months or below 1.35m in a proper child seat.

2. Speed Limits

Built-up area: 50 km/h
Single carriageway: 80 km/h
Dual carriageway/express: 100 km/h

3. No Phone While Driving

Hand-held or hands-free, both banned. Mount it or stop.

4. Zero Alcohol

Breathalyzer at every December checkpoint. One bottle and you’re 0.05% over = lose licence 6 months.

5. Valid Papers in the Cars

  • Driver’s licence (not expired)
  • Vehicle licence (current tax disc on windscreen)
  • Insurance certificate (third-party minimum)
  • Roadworthiness certificate
  • Tinted permit if windows dark

6.Working Lights & Horn

Headlights, brake lights, indicators, reverse light. Horn must be loud enough to warn 100m away.

7. Tyres & Spare

Minimum 1.6 mm tread on all four. Spare must be inflated. No recaps on steering axle.

8. No Overloading

Max passengers on vehicle licence. Boot overload that blocks rear view results to instant fine.

9. Warning Triangle & Fire Extinguisher

Triangle 45m behind if you break down on express. 1kg ABC extinguisher, not expired.

10. Lane Discipline

Keep left unless overtaking. No cruising in the right lane at 60 km/h.
