As part of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed’s progressive leadership, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has formally handed over ownership of Safeline Microfinance Bank to ROBOPAY NIG. LTD., in a strategic move aimed at repositioning the financial institution for greater competitiveness, technological transformation and sustainable growth.
The handing and take-over ceremony, held on Monday, 5 October 2026, at the premises of Safeline Microfinance Bank in Abuja, marked a new chapter in the history of the institution, which was established by the FRSC to provide financial services and opportunities for members of the Corps and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of Safeline Microfinance Bank, Engr. Ibrahim Babagana, fwc, Deputy Corps Marshal (Rtd.), disclosed that the decision to divest the Bank followed careful consideration by the Board of the prevailing regulatory environment and emerging government policies affecting the microfinance banking sector.
According to him, sustaining the Bank under the changing financial landscape would require significant additional capital injection, substantial investment in technology and the strengthening of its human capital. He explained that the Board considered it necessary to place the institution in the hands of an investor with the capacity and willingness to make the required investments and drive the Bank towards long-term sustainability. Engr. Babagana expressed confidence in the new ownership, stressing that ROBOPAY NIG. LTD. had demonstrated the competence, commitment and vision required to build on the foundation laid by the FRSC and take Safeline Microfinance Bank to a new level of growth and service delivery.

He noted that the new owners had shown particular commitment to strengthening the Bank’s capital base, deploying modern technology and investing in human resources, describing these as critical ingredients for the institution to remain competitive in an increasingly digital financial environment.
Responding on behalf of ROBOPAY NIG. LTD., Malam Aliyu Abiodun expressed appreciation to the Board and Management of Safeline Microfinance Bank for the confidence reposed in the company. He described the acquisition as a major milestone and an opportunity to unlock the significant potential of the institution.
Malam Abiodun noted that Safeline Microfinance Bank already possesses valuable assets, structures and an institutional foundation upon which the new owners intend to build. He said ROBOPAY would deploy financial technology (FinTech), alongside strategic investment in capital, technology and human resources, to transform the Bank’s operations, enhance service delivery and expand its competitiveness.
He assured that the new ownership would leverage the existing foundation established by the FRSC while introducing innovative solutions capable of repositioning the Bank for a stronger presence in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving financial services sector. The transition represents more than a change of ownership; it signals a strategic shift towards a technology-driven and investment-led future for Safeline Microfinance Bank, with ROBOPAY NIG. LTD. expected to build on the institution’s existing foundation and unlock new opportunities for growth.
The ceremony therefore marked the beginning of a new phase for Safeline Microfinance Bank, as both parties expressed their commitment to a seamless transition and to ensuring that the institution emerges stronger, more competitive and better positioned to deliver sustainable value to its customers and stakeholders.
